Content
Digital information is part of everyday life - from personal documents and photos to coursework and research data. Participants will learn practical strategies to organize digital files, develop consistent naming conventions, create reliable backups, choose interoperable file formats, archive important information, and confidently delete unnecessary data. Sustainable data management helps protect valuable information, reduces unnecessary storage, and makes digital files easier to find, and reuse.
Schedule:
This interactive session introduces practical strategies that participants can immediately apply in both their personal and academic lives. Topics include:
- why sustainable data management matters
- organizing files with clear folder structures
- developing consistent file naming conventions
- creating reliable backup strategies (e.g. the 3-2-1 backup rule)
- choosing sustainable and interoperable file formats
- deciding what to archive, what to keep, and what to delete
Throughout the session, real-world examples from everyday digital life and research illustrate how the same principles apply across different contexts. Participants will leave with practical recommendations that improve digital organisation, reduce the risk of data loss, and support long-term sustainability.
