If you need a quiet place to work for an extended period of time, reserve an individual study space. Individual study spaces (carrels) are available at the following locations:

The library has 22 individual study rooms (carrels): eight individual study rooms that do not require a reservation and are also suitable as small group study rooms for up to two people. The remaining 14 individual study rooms require a reservation and are allocated exclusively to postdoctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, visiting scholars, and students in Faculty 18. Please contact the Fachbibliothek Chemie und Pharmazie for more information. The maximum usage period is six months.

If you are a student in Faculty 9 and are working on your thesis, you can use the individual study rooms (carrels) at the Fachbibliothek Historicum for focused study and work. You must reserve a carrel in advance by email, specifying your major, semester, and type of thesis.

If you are a student in Faculty 13 and are working on your thesis, you can use the individual study rooms (carrels) at the Fachbibliothek Philologicum for focused study and work. These must be reserved in advance by emailing. Please include your current semester, your major, and the type of thesis you are writing. The reservation period is one month.

family_restroom Parent-child room

The Fachbibliothek Philologicum offers a parent-child (study) room where you are welcome to study and work with your child. Please ask at the information desk on site for access. You can find additional parent-child rooms available for your use on the LMU website.

groups Group study area

Group study areas are sections integrated into the reading room. They are not enclosed study rooms.

In the Circulation and Exhibition Hall (Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 1, room F012), you can meet up with your (work) group on the spur of the moment and work together.

The Fachbibliothek Philologicum has areas suitable for group work (Forum). These do not need to be reserved.

At the Learning Centers, you can generally work without a reservation, even in a group.

At the Lernzentrum Leo 13, three of the nine group work areas can be reserved. The tables in the reading area can each seat 5 people.

diversity_3 Group study room

Group study rooms are enclosed study spaces separate from the reading room. Some are available for spontaneous use, while others can be reserved through Anny. Group study rooms are available at the following locations:

There is a group study room that can be reserved for eight people. It is available for reservation by Faculties 7, 18, and 19.

The Fachbibliothek Englischer Garten has two group study rooms that cannot be reserved, each accommodating approximately 12 people.

Of the six group study rooms available, four cannot be reserved. The rooms vary in size and can accommodate four to eight people. The two group study rooms that can be reserved are available exclusively to students in Faculty 20.

A group study room is available at this location for students in Faculties 9 and 12. The room is designed to accommodate twelve people and must be reserved in advance.

There are two group study rooms available for reservation, each accommodating approximately eight people.

In the Fachbibliothek Mathematik und Physik, you can use two of the six group study rooms, which accommodate 6–9 people, on a walk-in basis. The four rooms that can be reserved are available exclusively to Faculties 16 and 17.

The Fachbibliothek Medizinische Lesehalle has two group study rooms that can accommodate about 15 people; you do not need to reserve them in advance.

The Fachbibliothek Philologicum has a total of nine group study rooms:

All rooms can accommodate up to six people.

There are two group study rooms available. Group Study Room 1 does not require a reservation and can accommodate eight people. Group Study Room 2 is available only to Faculties 11 and 15 and must be reserved.

A group study room for about ten people is available. Students from Faculties 1, 2, and 10 may reserve it.

One of the four group study rooms (Room 4) cannot be reserved. It can accommodate approximately ten people. Three group study rooms can be reserved by students from Faculties 4, 5, and 16.

They can also accommodate 10–12 people.

The Lernzentrum Georgianum has four group study rooms, each accommodating between 5 and 12 people, and another group study room for four (small) groups (2–4 people).
