Research data

Research data is all data that is generated, developed, or evaluated in the course of a research process or is based on it.

RDM information

In accordance with good scientific practice, project processes and results must be documented and managed in a comprehensible manner.

The University Library supports you in your research data management according to the FAIR principles: Is your data “Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable”?

LMU Munich regulations for ensuring good scientific research practice (in German)

The FAIR data principles (in German)

In order to make research data management (RDM) efficient, individual planning is required for the collection, publication, archiving, and reuse of data.

The RDM information service offers a service that can be used regardless of faculty affiliation. It is aimed at students and researchers at LMU Munich.

Information portal Research Data LMU

The bilingual information portal Research Data LMU has been online since the beginning of 2025. It serves as a central point of contact and networking platform for research data management (RDM) at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and is aimed at LMU members from all disciplines.

Research Data LMU is continuously being developed and expanded with new content. If you offer services, courses, or other activities in the field of research data management, please let us know. We will then include them in the portal.

Research Data Management Organizer (RDMO)

RDMO is provided by the LMU University Library and is designed to support the structured planning, implementation, and management of data in a scientific project, e.g., through:

  • Creation of funding-compliant data management plans (e.g. DFG, ERC/Horizon Europen, VolkswagenStiftung)
  • Reuse of recorded information in project workflows
  • Exporting as text documents for funding applications or reports
  • Creation of a project research data policy or software management plan

Note: RDMO is continuously being developed. Updates bring new features and improvements.

Research Data Repository Open Data LMU

With Open Data LMU, the University Library provides a platform for the publication and long-term archiving of research data.

Researchers from all LMU faculties and institutions cooperating with LMU are invited to store their research data on this platform in order to make it available to the general public in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative and the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities (in German).

In addition, publications can be linked to LMU via the Zenodo platform. The "Ludwig Maximilians-Universität München" community is available to all LMU members.
