Since the founding of Ludwig Maximilian University in 1472, all students have been registered by the chancellery staff in the matriculation register. This directory of individuals is one of the most valuable records kept in the Special Collections Department of the LMU Munich University Library – not only for documentation purposes, but above all because of the stories and fates behind the names.

The exhibition “Names, Numbers, Narratives – 550 Years of Students and Their Administrators at LMU,” which will open during Munich's Long Night of Museums, displays some of these treasures from the university archives.

Created in cooperation with UniGalerieLMU.
