On the University Library’s web pages at https://www.ub.lmu.de/en/, no user data is transmitted to third-party providers, such as social networks, without prior consent. Third-party providers can only access user data if the user has actively consented to the data transfer or leaves the University Library’s web page via an external link. On the respective pages of the social media provider that are accessed, the privacy policies and terms of use of the respective site provider apply, such as those of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Mastodon, or YouTube. Users are expressly requested to observe the terms of use and privacy policies of the social media provider.

Our Social Media Etiquette

Welcome to the social media channels of the University Library at Ludwig Maximilian University! The University Library’s social media channels are provided solely for public relations purposes as part of the Library’s mission. There is no obligation to use them. Comprehensive information is also available on the University Library’s web page.
You enrich our pages with your thought-provoking ideas, constructive criticism, questions, and praise. To ensure nothing stands in the way of this, we ask that we all observe a few rules. Furthermore, social media providers are subject to the Network Enforcement Act (NetzDG), which requires that illegal content be reported to social media providers. These providers are specifically obligated to immediately block or delete such illegal content. Regardless of reports to social media providers under the NetzDG, we have the right and the obligation to report, hide, or delete posts that violate our rules, if necessary without providing reasons.

Under certain circumstances, such as repeated or serious violations, accounts may be temporarily or permanently blocked. The legal obligations under the NetzDG remain unaffected, as does the duty of public authorities to report suspected criminal conduct to law enforcement agencies and to pursue legal claims (e.g., in cases of violations of personal rights).

Please remain respectful!

We are happy to address constructive criticism and questions and will forward your feedback. We also welcome discussions among you. In doing so, we value respectful interaction. Personal attacks and insults against us, third parties, or other community members will be removed immediately. Comments that disseminate content that is defamatory, harmful to minors, anti-constitutional, racist, sexist, pornographic, discriminatory, incites violence, glorifies violence, or is criminal in nature will also be removed.

Stay on topic!

Comments are intended for the free expression of opinions and discussion on the topics we cover in the respective posts. Please do not misuse the comment sections under posts for off-topic or purely private agendas! This is neither appropriate nor productive. Respect for others must be maintained at all times. We ask for respect here as well. Questions and criticism regarding all other topics are welcome in a factual manner via direct message.

Be clear!

We want everyone to be able to understand one another. Furthermore, we always want to fulfill our moderation responsibilities and be able to follow the comments. Unfortunately, this can only be guaranteed in German and English. We therefore communicate in these two languages and ask that you do the same. Comments in other languages will be removed without exception.

Refrain from posting commercial content!

As a Bavarian public institution, we are not permitted to host any commercial content, particularly to prevent violations of competition laws and claims by third parties.

Respect the law!

Laws and regulations, as well as the rules of the respective platforms, also apply on our channels. Violations may be prosecuted and punished and may result in personal liability. If you wish to quote others or post third-party material protected by copyright, please ensure that the source and author are correctly cited and verify that you hold the rights to use the material. We must remove any data or material that infringes upon your personal rights or those of third parties for your protection, ours, or that of third parties. We also reserve the right to make changes and additions to these netiquette guidelines.

We look forward to interacting with you!
